Relax with Hot Chamomile Tea

Relax with Hot Chamomile Tea

by Michelle on May 14, 2009

If you need a quick way to relax and feel calm, there is no better solution than a hot cup of tea. My new favorite is chamomile, a medicinal herb that has actually been used since Egyptian times as it offers a wide variety of benefits such as:

  • Helping to relax the nerves
  • Relieving insomnia
  • Use as a mild laxative
  • Easing menstrual cramps (according to Health magazine, drinking the tea can increase glycine in the body which relieves muscle spasms)
  • Providing relief of gas pains

According to Alternative Nature, the chamomile flowers are used in alternative medicine as an anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, tonic, and more. Since it acts as an anti-inflammatory, chamomile can help with arthritis and rheumatism.

There have also been studies showing that chamomile strengthens the stomach and even boosts the immune system (great for wintertime!). A study which had people drinking chamomile tea regularly for two weeks showed “increased evidence of antibacterial activity in their urine” supporting the fact that it helps to prevent illness.

I purchase organic chamomile tea packets from the local grocery store and it is a very mild tea, with a light and almost fruity taste. I found that it doesn’t need any sweetener, but is delicious when it’s nice and hot.

Now, I couldn’t write this post without giving the tea a test- I found that it really does help almost instantly for cramps. It’s a natural solution for that-time-of-the-month along with many other things. Hopefully, you will find that it’s got some benefits for you.
