Reiki: Universal Life Force Energy

Reiki: Universal Life Force Energy

by Sarah on February 17, 2009

Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray-key’) is a modern healing art that I am excited to begin studying.  I admit, this isn’t the first time Reiki has appeared in my life;  I was first acquainted and promptly disenchanted with the idea when the wrong person tried to “Reiki” me – causing me to reject the idea for years – but alas it has caught up with me again and this time there’s no ignoring it.

According to Reiki.org, there are two components to the Japanese word “Reiki”: 1) Rei, meaning God’s wisdom or higher power; and 2) Ki, life force energy. So more precisely, Reiki is “spiritually guided life force energy.”

In practice, Reiki is simply this: laying of the hands or gentle touch over the body, which causes a warm/tingling energy sensation and promotes the flow of life force energy in the body and healing on a spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical level.

While Reiki is spiritually intense, it does not require subscription to any other religion than love* – and it is based in the science of quantum physics, that all matter is energetic in nature.

Just enhancing the flow of ki, many patients report healing and reinvigorating results. Benefits of Reiki include:

  • Energy balance in the body
  • Clearer thinking
  • Energy boost
  • Physical discomfort relief
  • Immune system boost
  • Releases of blocks and suppressed feelings
  • Creativity boost

Students of Reiki become attuned to give this energy to themselves and others – and can even send it long distances, including the past and future. There are few Reiki Masters, but I am blessed to have a fantastic one right here in Grand Rapids. Reiki also has a fascinating history that I am curious to explore.

*Dr. Mikao Usui, founder of Reiki, died in 1926, imparting these words of wisdom:

The secret art of inviting happiness
The miraculous medicine of all diseases
Just for today, do not anger
Do not worry and be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.
Every morning and evening, join your hands in prayer.
Pray these words to your heart
and chant these words with your mouth
Usui Reiki Treatment for the improvement of body and mind

The wisdom imparted is known. For All gives to those that want to know with caring for those who want to know, and those that don’t.

It is wonderful to know such wisdom imparted now, for All. We are one, not under One, whom walks with Us, as one, as We walk ourselves, together as Self. Imparted to complete, becoming one as One, with One, together.

Shaman(s) unknown All of Us, as One. I am One.

My presence known touches with vibrations to impart to You, One.

As unknown as the wind upon Us, we breathe together and catch the Wind.

Take care, from One of You.

I go as the Wind.
