If you are in need of a filling breakfast loaded with good grains and fiber- you have come to the right place. I found Bob’s Red Mill 7 Grain Hot Cereal at my local health store for $3.19 (I’ve also seen it at the regular grocery store) and it’s not only warm and delicious, but very easy to make.
The ingredients are: whole grain wheat, rye, oats, triticale, barley, brown rice, oat bran, and flaxseed. To make the cereal, simply bring 3 cups of water to a boil and add 1 cup of the cereal. Lower the heat, cover and cook for 10 minutes (stirring occasionally).
This makes enough for about four people or four breakfasts for you during the week. I actually can only eat a much smaller amount of this than a sugary cereal because it is much more filling. It doesn’t come with a sugar high (and then, of course, crash), but actually leaves me feeling full longer.
I enjoy eating this hot cereal with a small amount of raw honey and raw milk. Another option is to serve with fresh berries such as raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries. This makes for a sweet, simple, and healthy breakfast.
