Cold Water Soap Nuts Users, Rejoice

April 28, 2009

Now that we’ve switched to laundry with soap nuts, we’ll never look back, but we weren’t enjoying the extra chore of boiling tea every time we needed clean clothes (I rarely use hot water for laundry, but hot water is what draws the cleansing saponins out of the soap nuts – hence the tea for [...]

Springtime Smoothie

April 26, 2009

I’ve found myself cooling off almost every day for the last two weeks with a delicious and healthy fruit smoothie. It’s a great way to get the nutrients of a variety of fresh fruits all in one drink. This is especially helpful if you have a hard time eating enough fresh fruit in a day [...]

Healing Aloe Vera Plant

April 23, 2009

I’ve been wanting an aloe vera plant for months and finally came across this beautiful plant at my local grocery store yesterday for $4.99. Now I know I’ve paid more than that for bottles of aloe vera gel (of course with many ingredients other than aloe) in the past, so I was pretty excited to [...]

Aspartame Not Worth the Risks

April 19, 2009

Although I think we’ve made it pretty clear how we feel about soda, I want to delve a bit deeper into the dangers of diet pop. If you’re thinking the word “diet” makes a Coke or Pepsi (or any other pop for that matter) a “healthier” option, think again. Sure, you can escape from the [...]

April 12, 2009

As our lives get busier and people are more and more “on the go”, it’s important to always have healthy snacks on hand. If you have something tasty at your fingertips, it’s easier to stay away from vending machines and other temptations that don’t benefit our bodies.
Since I work in an office where snacks (usually [...]

If you are thinking that a hot coconut oil hair treatment sounds like an indulgent, relaxing, and enjoyable treat, you are 100% right! I had been wanting to do one for a while, and finally spent about $10 at a local health store for a jar of Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.

Jala Neti!

April 6, 2009

I was recently diagnosed with post nasal drip – lots of inflammation in my nose and sinuses – and since the only experience I’d ever had with post nasal drip is watching Kallie knock out Adelaide’s Lament in the high school musical, I took my doctor’s (surprisingly homeopathic) advice and ordered a Neti pot.
I’ve been [...]

Stevia Banana Bread

April 5, 2009

Since I had a bunch of overripe organic bananas on hand today, I decided to make banana bread (yum!) and try baking with stevia for the first time. I gathered the ingredients below and got to work:
Bowl #1

2 eggs
3 small mashed bananas
1/3 cup milk
2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Bowl #2
